Needham Market 4 Ware 0

THREE second half goals made for an unflattering scoreline as Ware soaked up tremendous amounts of pressure from a highly-rated Needham Market side on a damp and blustery night in Suffolk.

Lethal marksman Sam Newson bagged a hat-trick to hand all three points to the Marketmen on a night when Needham goalkeeper Andrew Plummer was scarcely troubled.

Ware boss Stuart Nethercott had to make a couple of enforced changes to his side due to certain players’ unavailability. Danny Hayes came in on the right wing, while Tony Martin returned from a three-match ban to take up the striker’s role once again.

Needham, who have crushed opposing teams by seven goals on more than one occasion this season, had the ball in the net as early as the fourth minute, but their celebrations were cut short when the linesman flagged for off-side.

With seven minutes on the watch, Sam Newson used his pace to shrug off Ware defender Vince Rispoli and surged into the box, but the striker dragged his shot wide of the far post.

Ware goalkeeper Rhys Madden made two fine stops in quick succession, first to deny Danny Thrower’s unexpected shot from the left side of midfield, then to beat away Duane Wright’s effort from the opposite side of the field.

Mark Teasdale replaced Tom Querry at left-back after 32 minutes when the latter pulled up with a hamstring injury, but with 11 minutes to go until half-time, the Marketmen took the lead.

Angelo Harrop played the ball through the middle of the park and Newson fired across Madden and into the net to make it 1-0 to the hosts.

Wright should have doubled his side’s lead two minutes later, but he planted a free header wide of the post at point blank range.

Ware’s best chance of the half arrived on 39 minutes when Aime Blessing won a corner. Danny Hayes sent the ball into the box, but Lewis Taylor got too much underneath his header and it flew over the bar.

Needham came out hungry for more goals in the second period, and they made it 2-0 on 51 minutes.

After Madden made a decent block to deny Danny Thrower, Pip Boyland fizzed the ball back in low across the face of goal and Newson swept home his second of the match.

Danny Bloomfield was later denied by a combination of a Madden save and a heroic sliding tackle from determined centre-half Dave Bastian.

Needham had another effort ruled out for off-side on 69 minutes, but they made no mistake on 75 minutes as Bloomfield made it 3-0 following a corner from Ollie Fenn.

Bastian then had to be replaced having given everything for Ware’s cause, with Teasdale shifting across to centre-half and Antony Lane coming off the bench to occupy the left-back position.

Ware’s Dan Johnson had a shot charged down at the edge of the box on 78 minutes, while Vince Rispoli nodded wide at the near post on 85 minutes following a corner swung in by Lewis Taylor.

The Marketmen added their fourth goal in stoppage time when Newson tapped home following substitute Scott Chaplin’s low ball in from the left.
