Friend moves on

THE club can confirm that central defender Jack Friend has left to join Ryman League Division One North rivals Waltham Abbey.

The young defender was the subject of a seven-day approach from the Abbotts last week, and has now opted to join Paul Wickenden’s side.

He said on his Twitter page on Wednesday: “Signed for WAFC last night. Good luck to Ware. Sad to go but looking forward to a new challenge!”

Friend signed for Ware in March 2011 from ground tenants Wodson Park FC, and was one of a handful of players to stay loyal to the club when Stuart Nethercott took over as manager in the summer.

Manager Nethercott has thanked Jack for his services and reminded him that he will be welcome back at the club at any time.
