Ware 0 Bishop's Stortford 3

WARE gave a good account of themselves against a near full-strength Bishop’s Stortford outfit from the Blue Square Bet South, with striker Ryan Wade having two goals disallowed.

Ware chief Tony Faulkner rang the changes from the previous Tuesday’s league defeat to Brentwood Town, with Aaron Ormand making his first start between the sticks, while Lee Protheroe stepped up to take on a central midfield role.

Matt Mitchell made his return from a four-game suspension up front and had a couple of good chances.

Both sides had chances in the opening stages, the best of which went to Bishop’s Stortford as their attacker skied the ball over the bar from no more than three yards out following an attack down the right.

Luke Marshall had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee after he appeared to be tripped in the box, while striker Ryan Wade also had a decent shout for a spot kick turned down after a similar incident.

Indeed, Wade had the ball in the net twice, only for both efforts to be ruled out for offside.

Mitch Hahn opened the scoring for the visitors with a well-taken goal after beating his marker on 33 minutes.

Ware tried to get back into the game, with Mitchell seeing a shot go just over the bar from 25 yards out.

On 52 minutes it was 2-0 as Tony Garrod – one of two players in Stortford’s line-up currently on loan from Southampton – netted after being fed by Sanchez Ming.

And it was Ming who set up Danny Francis for number three on 65 minutes to put the game out of Ware’s reach.
