Ware 2 St Margaretsbury 1

A SAM Berry goal 20 minutes from time saw Ware book a home tie with Hertfordshire giants Stevenage in the next round of the Herts Senior Cup.

The midfielder’s strike added to Ryan Wade’s earlier effort as the home side came from behind to claim victory.

Boss Tony Faulkner took the opportunity to make a number of changes to his starting line-up.

Young goalkeeper Danny Sonner was given a debut between the posts, while left-back Rob Kemble started his first game for nearly two months after recovering from a broken toe.

Sam Berry went close with a shot in the opening stages, but it was St Margaretsbury who looked the more likely to score.

And that they did on 15 minutes when Chris Bell netted from inside the area with a flicked effort that beat keeper Sonner.

Berry saw another effort go close, but it was striker Ryan Wade who restored parity with a very well-taken strike.

Sam Ruff fed Dan Roles and he beat the full-back before crossing for Wade, who slid in to meet the ball and diverted it past goalkeeper Alan Buck on 25 minutes.

Berry made it 2-1 on 70 minutes when he bundled the ball home, before Ruff went close with a shot of his own.

Sonner made a good save at the other end to ensure Ware stayed in front, while substitute Murat Karagul hit the post with a late effort.

Ware: Danny Sonner, Joe Clemo, Rob Kemble, Chris Sargent, Matt Turpin, Sam Berry, Dan Roles, Sam Ruff, Ryan Wade, Matt Mitchell (sub: Alwayne Powell, 70), Gazmend Dauti (sub: Murat Karagul, 60). Subs not used: Luke Marshall, Jimmie Berry, Obey Murefu (GK).
