Ware struggled to find any hint of the form they showed at Wingate & Finchley a week earlier.  But the home side will claim it was their form that was important both in stifling Ware’s attack and exploiting the absence of full backs Kemble and Clemo.  They may have a point.

The twentieth minute opener for the Towners came after Obey Murefu blocked a shot from Jon Moore only for the midfielder’s momentum to carry him on to the rebound and knock the ball into the net.  How much Moore knew about it isn’t clear but the goal summed up the difference between the two sides in the first half with Enfield looking that bit harder, faster and more determined.

Even so Ware had their moments and Murat Karagul was put through only to shoot high and Sam Ruff was denied when Rob Blackburne turned his shot over the bar.

Changes were made for the second period with Gazmend Dauti being moved to right back and Danny Roles coming on at the expense of Ross Price.  This made a difference with Ruff and Sam Berry both coming close.

But it was all undone on the hour mark when Liam Hope flicked a cross into the top of the net.

After this Ware went to three at the back in an effort to produce more firepower up front but instead the goals came at the other end from the two players who caused Ware trouble all afternoon.

In a two minute spell with about 15 to go first Leon Osei fired an unstoppable shot past Obey Murefu and then Adam Wallace did the same but from longer distance.

There was still time for Ware’s frustration to boil over with a needless foul from Max Mitchell which saw him sent off.  He faces a four-match ban starting on February 5^th.

On the bright side Alwayne Powell made his debut in the second half and showed neat touches and plenty of inventiveness.  Hopefully he will get another chance in better circumstances.
